Annexure No. 1 to China Letter No. 872/91 of 20th July 1926.

List of Members Present at Conference held at Hong Kong on

12th May, 1926.

Hon. Mr. W.T. Southorn (Colonial Secretary)

Hon. Mr. Harold T. Creasy (Director of Public Works) Flag Capt. W.J.C. Lake R.N. (H.M.S, "HAWKINS)

Capt. G.H. Miles, R.N. (0/C Stonecutters W/T Station) Lieut. E. Dangerfield R.N. (H.M.S. "HAWKINS") Mr. L.H. King (Electrical Engineer, P.W.D.) Mr. Lees (H.M. Dockyard) and his successor.

The members of the meeting arrived at certain conclusions

and recommendations as follows :-

(a)

(8)

Suitable land line facilities should be provided subject to the approval of the Legislative Council and the voting of the necessary funds, between Naval Yard, Post Office and Stonecutters in order that Stonecutters could take over the continuous wave transmissions of weather reports and traffic to French Indo China, including Kwang chowan. D'Aguilar would undertake commercial traffic on 600 metres and act as Naval W/T Guard on that wavelength.

That following the satisfactory working of the arrangements suggested in paragraph (a) arrangements be made, subject to the approval of the Legislative Council and the voting of the necessary funds, for removing the transmitting gear now installed at D'Aguilar viz., one spark transmitter and one valve transmitter, to Stonecutters and the retention of D'Aguilar as a remote control station for the Government traffic.

(c) The arrangements outlined in paragraph (a) to be entirely

working. temporary and to be reported on after three months' If found unsatisfactory to either party three months' notice should be given. If found satisfactory the proposals contained in paragraph (b) to be carried out. considered that in view of the probable expansion of W/T traffic and Naval requirements the arrangements in paragraph and would not suffice (a) can only be of a temporary nature

(a)

(e)

It is

for the future, which is provided for by scheme outlined in paragraph (b).

The question of what payments should be made to the Naval Authorities when handling certain paid traffic during the temporary transition stage, vide paragraph (a) was discussed, 20 cents out of 30 cents per paid word was suggested but the charges would have to be adjusted by the Hong Kong Government Treasurer. The question of payments and charges if and when the entire scheme was carried out was not discussed.

It was suggested that the Naval Dockyard Station should close down and D'Aguilar take over the West River Naval traffic on 600 metres. This was not agreed to by the Naval members at the meetings nor did they consider that the Dockyard Station using 375 metres would interfere with commercial traffic on 600 metres. They were, however, for other reasons, prepared to recommend the Substitution of a small velvə set for the present spark set.
